Deadpool 2 Resumes Filming After Stuntwoman Death

Filming of Deadpool 2 resumed Wednesday in Vancouver, two days after stuntwoman SJ Harris was killed on set.

Production on Deadpool 2 started again this morning, two days after stunt woman Joi “SJ” Harris was killed in a motorcycle accident on the Vancouver set. The driver lost control of her motorcycle and crashed while filming a scene on Monday, August 14. Following the accident, 20th Century Fox immediately shut down production while the authorities conducted their investigation. At the time, it was unknown how long the sequel would be on hiatus.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances,” a posted notice for the production that went up late yesterday said, Deadpool 2 “was unable to complete its filming planned for August 14th and 15th.” Filming now scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in the Canadian city “is in the aftermath of an accident,” the notice chillingly adds of the production, with “debris” to be “spread out” at a location on August 16 and 17. This means the movie should remain on course for its previously scheduled June 2018 release date. Deadpool 2 is one of three X-Men universe films Fox has planned to premiere next year, along with New Mutants and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Harris only recently joined the David Leitch-directed flick after realising they needed a different stunt performer for the character of Domino, played by Zazie Beetz.

A source also told Deadline how the stunt in question had been rehearsed “over two full days over the weekend, and on Monday, they ran the stunt five-plus times before filming’.

Both Fox Studios and Ryan Reynolds have offered their condolences.

"We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of Deadpool 2 this morning," a statement from Fox Studios says. "Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time."

Ryan Reynolds tweeted out the following: "Today, we tragically lost a member of our crew while filming Deadpool. We’re heartbroken, shocked and devastated… but recognise nothing can come close to the grief and inexplicable pain her family and loved ones must feel in this moment.

"My heart pours out to them – along with each and every person she touched in this world."
