The sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to start filming in August 2017.

The wizarding world of J.K. Rowling had a successful return to the big screen with the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a film that reaped more than $812 million at the global box office and raking in an Oscar Award for Best Costume Design. Before the first movie was even released, Fantastic Beasts 2 was announced, and since Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them made good money, the sequel is already well underway. It looks like the movie is on the right track and will be shooting this summer.

Fantastic Beasts 2 is set to arrive in 2018, and though Newt Scamander will feature, the movie looks set to focus much more heavily on the rise of the dark wizard, Gridelwald (Johnny Depp), and in particular his relationship with a young Dumbledore (yet to be cast). Following on from news that Fantastic Beasts 2 would start filming this summer, and according to My Entertainment World (via Heroic Hollywood) it now looks certain that it will start shooting this August. My Entertainment World lists the United Kingdom and Paris, France as locations, but there is no mention of New York, which is where Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them took place.

The European location is understandable since Grindelwald rampaged right over in the area, and though Tina Goldsteine (Katherine Waterson) and her precious sister Queenie (Allison Sudol) are both American, Tina may go on after Newt (Eddie Redmayne). Elsewhere, Zoe Kravitz has confirmed that she will also have a bigger arc in the subsequent Fantastic Beasts movies, as Leta Lestrange. Teasing her “complex relationship” with Newt Scamander, Kravitz hinted at having a much larger role than just appearing as a moving photograph. It could well be that her relationship with Newt, and in turn, his relationship with Dumbledore, will all tie in together, as Dumbledore tries to stop Grindelwald’s rise to power.

Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for the first Fantastic Beasts and will be doing the same for Fantastic Beasts 2. Director David Yates is also set to return after helming the last four Harry Potter movies in addition to the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The Fantastic Beasts sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on November 16, 2018.
